Bogusia and Alex Playing Chess

Kuba's Friends

Kuba loves to play with other kids, but especially with girls (with long hair, with pretty dresses). His friends include Esteban and his brother Adrian, from two houses down. He also loves all his friends from swimming (Brandon, Chris, Aida, Isabella) and from daycare (Tea, Robert, Gabriella, DeNeige). He made a good friend Gabriel at Art Class. And recently he made some friends at daycamp, especially a girl called Rebecca and a boy named Nicholas. But most of all, above all others, he loves this one girl called Anita (a first crush?). Anita lives on the other side of Montreal, so the drive is long, but oh so worth it. When they get together, the two of them play so well together - not side by side with separate toys, but TOGETHER with the same toys, following each other everywhere. They are seriously madly in love with one another. When he doesn't see Anita for a while, he asks me to call her mom to setup a play date. I don't mind, because I love to see them play so well.

Bird in a Security Camera

This is a set of pictures I found kept from reviewing my home-made security system. Sometimes the system caught pictures of birds coming in for landings right in front of the camera. These images were taken a couple of summers ago, but I found them when cleaning up my computer.

The Little Swimmer

Kuba, at 3.12 years (as stated on his registration for his swimming course) can swim unassisted (without me, without a bubble - just swim). I am so proud of him. He is such a good little swimmer, but in his swimming course (white advanced, as they like to call it at the Pointe-Claire swimming pool), he is the smallest (by a head shorter, and by two years younger than the rest of the kids) and the weakest swimmer. He tries so hard though, listening and doing everything the teacher asks of him.

Robert's Birthday

Today we celebrated Robert's Birthday. I can't believe that a year has already passed... it feels just like yesterday that he was born, and already we are eating his first birthday cake. Robert is a staple in our family, and the love of our lives.

During the birthday party, Jakub talked to Babcia Bozenka on the phone, then we had cake and opened presents (Kubus even got Robert a small bracelet with all his money saved up from his chores during the week, instead of getting some candy).

Canada Day Weekend Camping Trip

This long weekend we went on a fantastic camping trip to Cumberland Bay State Park in New York with our good friends Jenny and John and their dog Whisky. Jakub had fun picking “wonderful” flowers while hiking in Point Au Roche State Park (excellent spot for dog lovers), and although the water was really cold, Alex and John (along with Joxer, Guapa, and Whisky) went on two great open water swims in Lake Champlain. Back at camp, we kept the fire going constantly, roasting marshmallows, chilly, hotdogs, shishkabobs, potatoes, and krispy kream donuts.

My Triathlon Goal

This Summer I'll be doing a triathlon (sprint distance) for the first time.  I've decided to set myself a goal for the individual events:  Swim (750m) in 17 minutes, Bike (20km) in 45 minutes, Run (5km) in 30 minutes.  We'll see how I actually do on Sunday, August 19, 2007 (In Calgary, Lake Chaparral Triathlon).  Come and cheer me on if you have the time.

Robert is Walking

For the last week, Robert has been taking a few steps here and there, but today was really a breakthrough:  He is definitely WALKING!!!  Although he still crawls, I think now he prefers to stay on his feet, and I see pleasure in his face when he is walking and succeeding.  What a rush!

I've also noticed that he's become less of a baby, and more of a child.  We were building a train set with Kubus, and first thing Robert tried to do is break it.  I told him "no", and showed him that trains can go on the train tracks, that it can be fun without breaking.  He seemed to understand, and instead of taking the track apart, he started playing on the tracks with a locomotive.  Such a small thing, but what a difference.  Also, in books when we see food, me and Kubus always pretend to eat it, stuffing it into our mouths.  Just recently, I've noticed Robert doing the same, even without our prompt.  Cool, eh?

Kuba Still Loves His Jolly Jumper

Eight Month Old Kuba Jolly Jumping

Kuba was always a fan of the Jolly Jumper (unlike Robert). I remember I could leave him in it for an hour at a time, and he would just love to bounce (Robert only likes it for a few minutes, and then gets bored and wants to come out). Even now, Kuba loves to see Robert play in the Jolly Jumper. And just a few days ago, he asked to go in it himself! He actually still fit in the small strap, so I let him jump around a bit, until I felt like it might break.

Nucleus Learning and Hexa-Trex

Over the past few months I have been working on a project: Nucleus Learning. It is a website mostly for teachers, to discuss educational topics. Also I have created an educational math game and puzzle (sold on the Nucleus Learning website also) called Hexa-Trex. I try to submit a new Hexa-Trex puzzle every day. Take a look at both websites, and pass on the word. Thanks!
